Feel like you’re failing as a dad? Read this
If you're lying awake asking whether you're a bad dad, here's something worth knowing: dads who don't care don't ask that question. The fact that you're worried says a lot about how much this matters to you. Feeling like you're failing is common, and it usually says more about how tired you are than how good a father you are.

Why the feeling shows up
- Nobody hands you a manual. Most of parenting is figuring it out as you go.
- Comparing yourself to dads online, or to the father you thought you'd be.
- The baby only wants Mom sometimes, especially early on. It's normal and it changes.
- You lost your temper, missed something, or got it wrong. Every parent does.
- Exhaustion. Everything looks darker on no sleep.
What good dads actually do
Good dads aren't perfect. They show up, they keep trying, and when they get it wrong, they repair it. A hug and "I'm sorry I got grumpy" teaches a child more than never making a mistake. Babies don't need a perfect father. They need you, there, most of the time.
What helps
- Notice what you do right. At the end of the day, name one thing you did for your kid. There's always one.
